Dantes
Inferno was the story of the poets supposed journey
through hell. It was written with such force and sense of reality
that Galileo delivered two lectures claiming to have arrived at
accurate measurements of Dantes version of hell. This illustration
is from an illustrated manuscript of Inferno by Bartolomeo di Fruosino
around the year 1420.
